Beauty in Unexpected Places

There's a shrub on the side of the house that looks to be in pretty rough shape.  Most of its leaves appear to have been eaten by deer, and it looks as if it's barely alive.

But what is that on top of it?

It's amazing how beauty can thrive even where, at first glance, there seems to be none.
